17 Best Crypto Subreddits to Learn About Web3

By: layerthree

You likely know that Reddit, the self-appointed “Front Page of the Internet”, is, collectively, a nearly endless breadth of knowledge. You may not know it is also a great place to find the latest news and meet, quite possibly, the single largest crypto community, all in one place. It’s also no wonder you’re looking for the best crypto subreddits and Reddit users to find the newest crypto projects and crypto enthusiasts. The world of cryptocurrency is a wide one, and we’re here to break it all down for you.

Here is our favorite variety of subreddits – in alphabetical order, so nobody gets hurt. Also, just a heads up, as even though these are the best crypto subreddits, not all of them spent the same amount of time on quality subreddit titles and descriptions. We’ve taken liberties to remove some of the fluff, but feel free to visit the subreddits to get a better feel for why they get our vote for the best crypto subreddits.

Best Crypto Subreddits

/r/Altcoin One of Reddit’s Original Crypto Subreddits. Altcoins, Shitcoins and Rugpulls – OHMY!

/r/Altcoin is one of the original and oldest cryptocurrency subreddits. We were closed for a while, but we’re baaaaaaack.

Our Take

Obviously, this is one of the most popular altcoin subreddits. There has undoubtedly been a lot of conversation about Bitcoin, but this is quite possibly the most useful subreddit for those smaller communities of altcoins and must be added to our list of the best crypto subreddits. These can range from the size of Solana (with a $13.5 billion market cap) to specific niche coins such as Audius (with a $310 million market cap) and beyond, and the quality of post generally does not drop.

Bitcoin – The Currency of the Internet

Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

Our Take: As the main bitcoin subreddit and one of the earliest and now best cryptocurrency subreddits, it only makes sense that the first cryptocurrency is the perfect place to get your feet wet for general discussions, crypto news, and everything in between when starting out. Institutional investors are pouring in, and we’ve found that one of the biggest communities in the crypto space is one of the best ways to learn about blockchain technology. Therefore, obviously, one of the best crypto subreddits.

Bitcoin for Beginners

Description: Bitcoin for Beginners is a subreddit for new users to ask Bitcoin related questions. Do not respond to strangers direct messaging you, as over 99% of these people are Scammers. This subreddit allows open discussion where peer review occurs.

/r/BitcoinBeginners is not for posting new websites, memes, faucets, affiliate links, news, concern trolling, blog articles, or promoting altcoins and ICOs. Bitcoin related Questions only. Altcoin questions and discussion are not allowed.

Our Take

The BitcoinBeginners subreddit is one of the best places, if not the best place, for funny and serious discussions about everything Bitcoin, with an incredibly passionate community and interested users. That combination of humor and education gives it an easy nod for one of our best crypto subreddits.

Navigate the complex landscape of the blockchain

Description: Discussing new technologies in the digital asset space – whether it’s blockchain, cryptocurrency, gaming, NFTs, or something totally different – all with the beginner in mind. No stupid questions here!

Our Take

Well… This is just a shameless plug for Layer Three’s own subreddit that we’re trying to grow! Hopefully, we are allowed to vote for ourselves for the best crypto subreddits, since that is exactly what we’ve done. However, if if you’re reading here, we can almost guarantee you’ll also appreciate the content over at /r/Blockography. Come join and get in on the ground floor of one of the newest online communities!

Welcome to /r/Crypto_General. This subreddit is for general cryptocurrency discussion.

Our Take

General subreddit for every aspect of cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrency News & Discussion ( <- the “&” is actually in the title, that is not a typo from us!)

Our Take

This subreddit is where tons of communities in the crypto world unite to discuss good news, bad news, the latest trends, and is an excellent tool to dip your toes into the water of the cryptocurrency space.

This subreddit is a discussion forum oriented towards real teams, experienced developers, working freelancers and anyone who is willing to learn about the true technical potential of crypto. Visitors are encouraged to post anything related to cryptocurrency/blockchain development. Please make quality contributions and follow the rules for posting.

Our Take

No token sales or trading cryptocurrencies here! This is an active community that is mostly geared towards the actual developers of cryptocurrencies and data chain technologies. If you are somewhat technically savvy, it is an interesting place to pop into!

Welcome to the FOREX community of cryptocurrencies! This subreddit is for discussing all crypto denominated markets but with an emphasis on altcoins. Topics can range from exchanges, technical analysis, to fundamental analysis. If you have any questions, comments, or would like to contribute to the development of the community in some way, please message the moderators.

Our Take

Less about how the behind-the-scenes technology works and more about trading strategies, this is the biggest subreddit in all of the Reddit ecosystem on this particular topic – cryptocurrency trading. This is also a good place to learn how not to get scammed on crypto exchanges to the best crypto app.

This subreddit is a place to discuss low market cap cryptocurrencies/ICOs out of top 100, that might be potential moonshots.

We aim to identify potential moonshots at the earliest stage possible.

Our Take

This subreddit is basically dedicated to low market cap cryptocurrencies that have the potential to “moonshot” or exponentially gain in value over a fairly short period of time. Crypto investors are always on the lookout for these new projects that are inexpensive to bet on, as the potential for gains is greater, but they are careful to point out that you must always DYOR (Do Your Own Research!) and get plenty of information, since they also have the (more likely) scenario of going to $0.00.

This subreddit is for Serious & Technical Discussion of CryptoCurrency Technology.

Rules: This subreddit is for the technology behind cryptocurrencies; the math, the code, the theories. We are pushing for quality, shilling will not be tolerated.

Our Take

This subreddit is for more serious discussion regarding the different applications of crypto, initial coin offerings, and future uses of blockchain technology.

Welcome to DeFi, a sub for building the open financial system. Here you can discuss project ideas, articles, events, questions, support, and other topics related to DeFi development.

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) is an ecosystem of various cryptocurrencies, tokens and dApps such as Maker, Compound, Aave, Uniswap etc.. that allow the user to participate in non traditional financial markets. These protocols are giving greater financial freedom to people all around the world.

Most DeFi dApps are currently built on Ethereum, but other blockchains such as Polkadot, Cardano, and Avalanche promise to expand the scene and make it even more accessible, and profitable for the average person.

Our Take

This is likely to be a slightly more obscure concept and subreddit to those who are new to the space, but once your past that beginner stage and ready to move to the next level, DeFi is where you’ll inevitably end up. Follow this subreddit and gradually become more comfortable!

Welcome to r/Ethereum, the front page of web3.

Our Take

Our Take: As the biggest altcoin and one of the largest subreddit communities about the Ethereum blockchain, this is a highly-recommended resource to learn about the specific cryptocurrency, Ethereum, as well as the rest of the incredibly diverse crypto industry, as there is such a large overlap between Ethereum and the rest of the space.

Discussions about Ledger’s products. Visit us @ ledger.com

Welcome to Ledger’s community!

Our Take

If you have explored the different parts of Crypto Space for any length of time, you’ve likely heard somebody spout, “Not your keys, not your coins,” and we tend to agree (to an extent). Having a hardware wallet, prevents the most common mistake of being scammed out of currency or NFTs, and our opinion is that the Ledger Wallet is one of the best crypto wallets available now.

This is the official subreddit of Monero (XMR), a secure, private, untraceable currency that is open-source and freely available to all.

Our Take

This subreddit is a large community discussing the anonymous cryptocurrency, Monero. Definitely worth a follow if you are into privacy.

The NFT subreddit is a gathering for those interested in Non-Fungible Tokens. Non-Fungible Tokens are set to change how value interoperates across the digital landscape of media in the new Web 3.0 version of the internet. These unique asset span across video games, blockchain domains, representing a claim on physical assets, and even as decentralized identities.

The NFT subreddit is a gathering for those interested in Non-Fungible Tokens in the decentralized movement.

Non-Fungible Tokens are set to radicalize how value interoperates across the digital landscape of media in the new Web 3.0 version of the internet. These unique assets span across video games, blockchain domains, representing a claim on physical assets, and even as decentralized identities.

Our Take

Mostly a presentation of works that artists have created and are looking to turn into an NFT. It is a great way to find new art, artists, and have discussions with them and those who are already deep in the space.

OpenSea is the first and largest NFT marketplace. Buy, sell, & create the world of NFTs: cryptoart, game items, domain names and more! Contact the mods if you’d like to do an AMA. OpenSea support will never DM you! Please open a support ticket if you need assistance: https://support.opensea.io/

Our Take

A community dedicated to the OpenSea platform, both on their website and mobile app, which is (by far and away) the largest NFT marketplace. One of the best subreddits for discussion that can range from upcoming projects to past works.

Welcome to the official Solana subreddit. This is a place to post any information, news, or questions about the Solana blockchain. Web-scale blockchain with speeds of 50k TPS. This subreddit is operated by the Solana Foundation.

Our Take

Our Take: One of our favorite layer one blockchains is Solana, and this is the official Solana subreddit. Discussion about who is building what, opinions on current projects, and what to expect next on one of the fastest blockchains.

Worst Crypto Subreddit

And, now the one we’ve all been waiting for – the crypto subreddit we are least fond of (drumroll, please!)…

We are not going to do the subreddit justice by linking to it or posting the title and description. However, we will let you know what you’re in for if you decide to take the plunge.

If you want to see post after post of pictures of Asian stores with a Bitcoin Cash sign, or just truly terrible memes, this is place for you.

At the time of writing, literally the two most popular posts of the past week are:

1) This meme: https://i.redd.it/3y7gey36pr391.jpg

2) And, this video: https://v.redd.it/m52pfxqczg391

If terrible memes and pointless videos of signs aren’t your cup of tea, avoid r/BTC like the plague.
